MADISON, N.J. (November 24, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball junior
Patrick Barron exploded for 23 second half points Tuesday in the Ducks 103-99 win over Fairleigh Dickson University-Florham.
The win moved Stevens to 4-1, while FDU fell to 1-3. The matchup was originally scheduled for Hoboken, however the water main break in Hoboken forced the game to be moved to Madison.
Junior
Evan Klimchak matched Barron with 23 points of his own, in addition to five rebounds and five assists. Senior
Alex Lorenz tallied his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards, while freshman
Ryan Coffey contributed 13 rebounds.
The Ducks shot 51 percent from the field and 42 percent from three, including 72 percent from beyond the arc in the second half. The triple digit scoring output was the second in as many games.
After going back-and-forth over the first 12 minutes, the Ducks gained some separation with a 7-0 run to go up eight midway through the half. A three from senior
Kevin Zychowski extended the lead to 10, however FDU responded with a 14-4 run to tie the game the game with two minutes to go.
Layups from junior
Thomas Ahern and Klimchak put the Ducks back up four before the Devils answered with one of their own to cut the deficit to two heading into the half.
Keyed by eight points from Barron, the Ducks sprinted out of the locker room with a 17-4 run to start the second, before eight more from Barron over the next two minutes put Stevens up 19.
The Devils were able to answer with a run of their own however, pulling to within nine with just under four minutes remaining, before cutting the deficit to four off a three in the final minute. That's as close as they would get though as Barron and Klimchak iced the game with free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
The Ducks will return to action Sunday when they travel to Rutgers University-Newark for a 2 p.m. game.
