NEWARK, N.J. (November 29, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball freshman
Kevin Florio led the Ducks with a career-high 15 points Sunday in a 95-70 loss to Rutgers University-Newark.
The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Ducks, dropping their season record to 4-2. RN moved to 3-2 with the win.
Senior
Alex Lorenz chipped-in with 11 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore
Chris Cosgrove matched him with 11 points to go along with a team-high five assists.
As a team, the Ducks shot 42 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.
Stevens jumped-out to a 12 point lead six minutes into the game after a three from junior
Thomas Ahern made it 18-6. A three from Florio two minutes later extended the lead to 13, however a 9-0 R-N run over the next three minutes cut the Stevens deficit down to four midway through the half.
Despite the run, the Ducks held onto the lead over the next several minutes before an R-N tip-in put the Ducks in a two point hole with seven minutes to go. The Scarlet Raiders held onto the momentum from there, extending their lead to eight before a layup in the final minute put the Ducks down 10 heading into the break.
R-N's lead ballooned to 16 before a layup from junior
Patrick Barron and a three from Cosgrove brought the Ducks to within 10, however it's as close as Stevens would get the rest of the afternoon as R-N maintained its double-digit lead over the remainder of regulation to seal the win.
The Ducks will continue their six game road-swing Wednesday when they travel to Brooklyn College for a 7:15 p.m. game.
