Men’s Basketball Falls At The Buzzer

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 5, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team lost on a three at the buzzer Saturday in a 97-95, non-conference road loss to the College of Staten Island.

After senior Alex Lorenz hit a layup in the final minute to put the Ducks up four, CSI responded with a three
22 seconds later to get to within one. The Dolphins stopped Stevens on the next possession before Wesley Smith kicked-out to Vincent Dacunto on the fast-break for the game-winning three.

The loss dropped Stevens to 4-4, while CSI moved to 4-2 with the win.

Junior Patrick Barron led the Ducks with 24 points to go along with five rebounds, while Lorenz, sophomore Chris Cosgrove, and junior Evan Klimchak each tallied 14. Freshman Ryan Coffey led the Ducks with nine rebounds, while senior Kevin Zychowski contributed 10 points off the bench.

As a team, the Ducks shot 48.5 percent from the field, 52.2 percent from three, and 89.5 percent from the line.

After trading blows over the first five minutes, CSI gained its biggest lead of the game after a layup and free throw put the Dolphins up seven. The lead grew to as much as 10 with five minutes to go, however sophomore Frank Amari hit four free throws in the final minute to pull the Ducks to within five heading into the break.

CSI gained separation once again in the second after a 7-2 run put them up 13 with 13 minutes remaining, however the Ducks answered with a 13-2 run started by a Zychowski three to pull to within two just over midway through the half.

Barron put the Ducks in front with a three a few minutes after that before CSI responded with a 7-3 run to regain a three point lead with under three to go. The Ducks were able to get back up four with a three from Barron and Lorenz's layup, however CSI closed the game with back-to-back threes to get the win.

After exams and the holiday break, the Ducks will return to action on Jan. 3 where they'll open-up Empire 8 Conference play with a 2 p.m. game at Ithaca College.
