ITHACA, N.Y. (January 3, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball senior
Alex Lorenz poured-in a career-high 25 points Sunday in the Ducks 120-110, Empire 8 Conference road loss to Ithaca College.
Stevens fell to 4-5 (0-1) with the loss, while Ithaca moved to 7-2 (1-0).
Freshman
Ryan Coffey and senior
Kevin Zychowski also each tallied career-highs with 19 and 17 points respectively, while sophomore
Chris Cosgrove scored 17 to go along with seven assists and six rebounds. Junior
Evan Klimchak dished-out eight assists, his most in a game since mid-November.
As a team, the Ducks short 50.6 percent from the field while going 16-for-19 from the line.
Stevens built an early 10 point lead over the first eight minutes, and maintained at least a four point lead until an Ithaca layup during the five minute mark brought the Bombers to within three. A three from Coffey built the lead back to seven, before Zychowski put the Ducks back up by double-digits off a three with three minutes to go.
Zychowski added another score from behind the arc one minute later to put Stevens up 11, however Ithaca responded with an 8-2 run to pull within five heading into the half.
The Bombers continued the run with eight straight to start the second before Cosgrove stopped the streak with a free throw to bring Stevens back to within two. Both teams went back-and-forth from there over the next four minutes, before a 7-2 Ithaca run put Stevens in a 10 point hole with 12 minutes remaining.
Ithaca extended the lead to 15 during the nine minute mark, however the Ducks battled-back with an 11-5 run to pull within six with five minutes to go. It's as close as Stevens would get the rest of the day though as a 14-4 Ithaca run put the Ducks in a hole they couldn't recover from.
The Ducks will continue their E8 road trip tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game at Elmira College.
