Women’s Basketball Looks To Continue Win Streak This Weekend

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 12, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team continues its Empire 8 Conference schedule this weekend with tilts against Elmira College and Ithaca College on Friday and Saturday respectively.
 
The Ducks (18-2, 11-1) have won seven in a row.
 
SECOND TIME AROUND                                             
 
The Ducks are 1-1 this season against this weekend's competition with a 58-41 win over Elmira (8-12) and a 75-68 loss to Ithaca (17-4). Stevens has won its last five in a row against Elmira.
 
CONFERENCE STANDING
 
Stevens and Ithaca enter the weekend in a tie atop the Empire 8 Conference at 11-1 with four games to play. Elmira enters play in sixth place at 4-7.
 
ROAD WARRIORS
 
Stevens is undefeated in true road games this season, winning by an average of 12.6 points per game.
 
COACHING MILESTONE
 
With Saturday's 60-27 win over Hartwick College, Stevens head coach Megan Haughey became the third coach in program history to reach 50 wins.
 
AWESOME ASTEL
 
Junior Kaitlyn Astel has scored in double-figures in 18 of 20 games this season including the last 16 in a row. The Staten Island native currently leads the Ducks in scoring (17 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg), and is the leading scorer in the E8.
 
DUCKS DEFENSE
 
Stevens' defense allowed a season-low 27 points Tuesday in a win against Hartwick College after allowing just five points in the first half. The Ducks currently lead the E8 in scoring defense.
 
BENCH CONTRIBUTIONS
 
Coming off the bench, sophomore Brittany Washington, sophomore Daphne Ginn, freshman Megan Brown, and junior Megan Petuskey combined are contributing 21 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Each has played every game this season.
 
EMPIRE LEADERS
 
The Ducks enter play this weekend as the conference leaders in field goal percentage (44 percent), field goal percentage defense (32 percent), defensive rebounding average (29.5), blocks (89), and assists per game (15.3).
 
MAKING A POINT
 
Sophomore point guard Erica Guketlov's 3.2 assists per game is the fourth best mark in the conference, while her 1.4 assists to turnover ratio is second.
