FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (February 22, 2015) – The No. 40 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team couldn't overcome an early doubles deficit in a 6-3 loss to No. 26 Denison University.
The loss dropped Stevens to 1-2 while Denison moved to 1-4.
Denison took early control of the match with an 8-5 win at third doubles over freshman
Kyle Henry and junior
Tyler Tisdale, followed by an 8-6 win at No. 2 over freshmen
Danny Polk and sophomore
Michael Feldman. The Big Red finished off the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 1 over juniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran.
In each match, Denison took slim early leads en route to the close wins.
Heinrich got the Ducks on the board with quick 6-1, 6-2 win at first singes before Feldman followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win of his own at No. 2. Denison junior Jackson O'Gorman-Bean stopped the Ducks momentum with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Polk at No. 3, allowing the Big Red to clinch the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win at No. 6 over sophomore
Antonio Perich.
Sophomore
Charles Drake registered the Ducks third singles victory with a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 4 over freshman Jack O'Koniewski to end the day.
Stevens will continue its torrid schedule on March 1 when it travels to No. 38 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
