Men’s Tennis Continues Grueling Schedule This Weekend

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 13, 2015) – Fresh off a pair of wins against top-40 teams, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team will continue its top heavy schedule this weekend with the Middlebury Invitational.

The Ducks (3-2) will battle host No. 3 Middlebury College Saturday at 10 a.m. before concluding the event with a Sunday matchup against No. 33 Brandeis University.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Saturday will be Middlebury's first match of the season for a team that features three of the top-50 singles players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings in junior Ari Smolyar (No. 15), freshman Noah Farrell (No. 25), and junior Jackson Frons (No. 44).

Brandeis enters the weekend having lost three straight despite carrying the No. 17 and No. 24 singles players in the Northeast in sophomores Brian Granoff and Michael Arguello.

MOVIN' ON UP

After jumping from No. 40 to No.31 last week in the ITA rankings, the Ducks continued their rise with a No. 29 ranking this week.

RECORD CHASING

With a 4-1 singles record so far this spring season, junior Matthew Heinrich enters Saturday one win shy of tying assistant coach Arik Zeevy for third on the all-time singles wins list. With three more wins, Heinrich will tie Rick Bawa's mark of 70 set in 2008.

PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF

After capturing the ITA's Northeast doubles crown this fall, Heinrich and junior Ben Foran have continued their winning ways with a 4-1 mark this spring. The duo is currently ranked No. 3 in the country.

ON A ROLL

Since dropping the opening singles match of the season at No. 5, sophomore Charles Drake has won four straight at fourth singles. Similarly, sophomore Michael Feldman was won two straight at No. 3 after starting the season 1-2 combined at second and third.

FRESHMAN IMPACT

Freshman Danny Polk has won two straight in singles to go along with three wins this season at doubles with Feldman. Freshman Kyle Henry's two singles wins this season have both clinched matches for the Ducks.
