MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 18, 2015) – The No. 29 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team held the advantage after doubles Wednesday before falling 6-3 to Division II Florida Institute of Technology.
The loss evens Stevens' record to 4-4 while Florida Tech moved to 11-4. The Panthers entered the match ranked No. 44 in DII.
The Ducks gained the early advantage with junior
Matthew Heinrich and freshman
Danny Polk's dominant 8-1 win at first singles to go along with junior
Ben Foran and freshman
Kyle Henry's 8-6 win at No. 2.
Both pairs were a first for Stevens this season.
Florida Tech got a point back with a win at third doubles before taking wins in five singles matches to take the win. The Ducks were able to salvage a point in singles with Heinrich's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1.
The win for Heinrich moved the All-American to third place on the all-time Stevens singles list.
The Ducks will conclude their Florida trip Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. match against No. 22 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
