DALLAS, Pa. (April 12, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team picked up a 2-0 victory over No. 22/13 Misericordia College on Sunday.
The Ducks picked up their seventh straight victory moving to 15-9 on the year while Misericordia fell to 17-5.
Both pitchers, junior
Jayson Yano for Stevens and Garrett Pelko of the Cougars matched zeroes over the first five innings, but the visiting Ducks struck first in the top of the sixth. Junior
Jonathan Toro rapped a leadoff double down the left field line which was followed up by another double in nearly the same spot by senior
Marc Calleo who knocked in Toro. Through six innings, Yano was excellent, allowed only two hits and was rewarded with an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Senior
Gregg Nickels was hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position via a stolen base. He came around to score on big double by freshman
Tommy Baronner. The Cougars had the tying run at the plate with one out in the ninth, but junior
Ryan Patterson got two pop outs in the infield to close out the game for his fifth save of the year.
Yano tossed eight innings, surrendering three hits while fanning eight. Baronner had two hits while the team hammered five doubles out of their seven hits.
Kyle Lindsay had two hits including a double for Misericordia, who received five and a third innings from Pelko and struck out five.
The Ducks are back in action Wednesday when they travel back to Pennsylvania to take on Arcadia at 4 p.m.
