Peluso Reaches Milestone In Men’s Lacrosse Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 15, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse head coach Gene Peluso recorded his 200th career win Wednesday in the Ducks 8-4 win over Empire 8 Conference foe Utica College.

The win moved Stevens to 8-5 (4-1) while Utica fell to 6-7 (1-4). Peluso's 71 wins at Stevens are the fifth most for a head coach in the program's illustrious history.

Freshman Tommy Dawson led the Ducks with two goals to go along with three ground balls while junior Colin Sawula was a force on the defense, causing four Utica turnovers. Sophomore Kevin Rafferty turned-in a season-high 10 saves in net.

As a team, the Ducks recorded 54 shots to Utica's 23 while defensively forcing 30 Pioneers turnovers.

Junior Connor O'Shea got the Ducks scoring started with a goal one minute into the game off a pass from sophomore Connor McKeon. Dawson doubled the lead with an unassisted score five minutes later before Utica bounced back with two of its own to tie the game.

McKeon grabbed the lead back with a man-up goal early in the second quarter, but Utica answered five minutes later with the equalizer to send the game into the half tied at three.

Dawson put the Ducks back in front with a goal off a pass from junior Andrew Scrutchfield early in the third, followed by an unassisted goal from Scrutchfield seven minutes later.

Stevens padded the lead with a pair of scores early in the fourth to put the Ducks up four, and after a Utica goal cut the deficit to three, Sawula capped the scoring with an unassisted goal late in the fourth.

The Ducks will continue their E8 schedule Saturday when they battle No. 19 Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. at noon.
