RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. (May 3, 2015) - The No. 22 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team defeated Ithaca College 5-0 Sunday for its sixth consecutive Empire 8 Conference Championship.
The win clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the Ducks (19-5), while Ithaca's season ends at 10-8-1. Junior
Matthew Heinrich was named the championship's most valuable player for the third time in as many years.
Sophomore
Michael Feldman and freshman
Kyle Henry got the Ducks off to a strong start with an 8-2 win at second doubles before sophomore
Charles Drake and freshman
Danny Polk added to the lead with an 8-2 win at No. 3. The win was the eighth of the season for Feldman and Henry, while Drake and Polk moved their record to 12-1.
Junior
Ben Foran and Heinrich completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at first doubles for the duo's 12
th win of the season.
Needing just two more wins for the championship, Foran made quick work of his opponent with a straight-set win at second singles before freshman
William Persson delivered the clincher with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
None of the other singles matches were completed per the championship's play to decision format.
The Ducks will await their NCAA opponent with the tournament's seeding release set to come out Monday at noon.
