Women’s Lacrosse Preparing For ECAC Run

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team enters the ECAC Women's Lacrosse Mid-Atlantic Region Championship tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will take on Arcadia University Saturday at noon.

The Ducks are 13-5 overall and advanced to the semifinals after a 21-6 rout over Neumann University Wednesday.

FAMILIAR FOE

Stevens has already played Arcadia this season, winning 17-5 in a game where six players recorded double digit goals. The Knights enter the semis thanks to a 14-11 win over Drew University.

SCOUTING THE FIELD

The other two teams, Lebanon Valley College and McDaniel College, enter the final four with 11 and 10 wins respectively.

D IS KEY

The defense has been a big part of why the Ducks have recorded 13 victories, holding opponents to a shade under eight goals per game which leads the conference and is top-35 nationally.

Senior Amanda Ingersoll, sophomores Madison Annitto and Betsy Crossland, and freshman Victoria Alvarez play key roles on the back end, while Alvarez is tasked with shutting the down the opponents main offensive weapons.

OFFENSIVE WEAPONS

Junior Erika Wilcox has put together a fantastic season, leading the E8 in goals (66) and points (87) while finishing sixth in assists (21). She's scored one goal in every contest, and has recorded multiple point efforts in every game this season.

Sophomore Kathleen Kalbian is tops in the conference in draw controls (74) and fifth in both assists (25) and points (60).

FRESHMEN POWER

In addition to Wilcox and Kalbian, freshmen Cami Santor and Julianna Ricci have played big roles in the offensive third of the field.

Santor has notched 20 goals while chipping in 15 assists from the attack position. Ricci has been well-rounded as a midfielder, tallying 29 goals while placing second in the conference in ground balls (54) and third in caused turnovers (27).

ALL-CONFERENCE

Wilcox was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year and first team All-E8, while Kalbian and Ingersoll each received first team accolades. Hughes took home second team honors, while Alvarez was chosen as an honorable mention.

Senior Courtney Lee was named Stevens' sportswoman of the year, an award given to one student-athlete from each team who emphasizes the ideas of competing with honor and integrity.
