HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 1, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer senior
Colin Phillips recorded his first career hat-trick Tuesday in the Ducks 5-0 win over Yeshiva University on opening night.
The win starts Stevens at 1-0 while Yeshiva fell to 0-1.
The Ducks held the Macabees shot-less over the first 89 minutes while peppering Yeshiva with 21 of their own. Stevens also bested its opponents on corner kicks, registering eight to Yeshiva's zero.
The Ducks dominated possession over the first 17 minutes before finally breaking through off a free-kick-score from Phillips. The senior continued his outburst nine minutes later with a goal off a cross-pass from senior
Harrison Kane.
The lead held firm for the remainder of the half before sophomore
Tommy Dorsay connected with senior
Chris Renna with under one minute remaining to send the Ducks into the break up three.
Phillips completed his hat-trick two minutes into the second half by scoring off a deflection from his own free position shot. The lead was more than enough for the Stevens defense as it held Yeshiva shot-less over the next 20 minutes, allowing the Ducks to pad the lead in minute 70.
Off a pass from senior
Daniel Knight, senior
Keith Gillette sent one into the top left corner out of reach of the lunging keeper. Yeshiva finally managed a shot in the closing minutes, but the opportunity was easily corralled by Stevens goalie
Mike Renna.
The Ducks will continue their home slate Saturday when they host Haverford College at 4 p.m. at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
