Women’s Soccer Looks To Defend Engineering Cup

HOBOKEN, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 11, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team looks to claim its second straight Engineering Cup this weekend.

Vassar College, New York University and Whitman College will be the other three teams competing for the Cup this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ducks routed Mount Saint Mary College 4-0 on Wednesday. Junior Raba Nassif opened the scoring in the seventh minute before freshman Zisi Komar tallied the first two goals of her college career in the 65th and 68th minutes. Senior Kristen Goncalves recorded a goal and an assist and the team fired 20 shots during the contest.

KEEP THE CUP
Stevens has won eight of the first 11 installments of the Engineering Cup, including last year when they won both of their matchups. Ann Heine was named Offensive Most Valuable Player while then freshman Lindsey Mahnken took home Defensive Most Valuable Player honors in 2014.

MILESTONE WATCH
With her goal Wednesday, Nassif hit 25 tallies in her career. Junior Gabby Mathelier sits three points away from 20 while Mahnken is 17 saves away from 100.

WHAT'S BREWING
Vassar is up first for the Ducks on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Stevens holds a 7-3 series edge over the Brewers, including a 1-0 win last year. Balanced scoring has been a strength for Vassar, as four players have each tallied a goal. Senior Emma Nichols has made 14 saves in her three starts this season.

DEEP PURPLE
NYU and the Ducks will meet Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of the tournament. McKennah Spagnola leads the Violets with two goals while Lexi Clarke has registered a team-best nine shots.

WILLIAMSON RETURNS
This weekend will be a homecoming for Whitman head coach Laura Williamson, who was previously an assistant coach here at Stevens. She was an assistant to current head coach Jeff Parker from 2009-2011, and was part of the Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
