Women’s Volleyball Drops A Pair At Asics Invitational

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (SEPTEMBER 12, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team dropped matches to No. 16 Clarkson University and No. 18 University of Mount Union Saturday.
                
The Ducks fell to 4-5 on the season, while junior Christina Sciarra was named to the Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
No. 16 Clarkson 3, Stevens 1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-17)
Junior Mary Tobin led the way against Clarkson with 14 kills and 13 digs while senior Catie Shelton handed out 23 assists to go along with 12 digs. Five players tallied 12 or more digs, led by sophomore Sydni Horner, who had 20.
 
This was a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament regional final, and the result was similar with the Golden Eagles winning in four sets. They were led by Aishvina Arasu who had 19 kills while Tara Stilwell and Sierra Rhoades had over 20 digs apiece.
 
No. 18 Mount Union 3, Stevens 0
Stevens played the Purple Raiders tough in the final two sets, falling by a mere two points in each game. The Ducks offense was led by sophomore Emily Singleton, who tallied a season-high 11 kills while Tobin finished with six kills, nine digs and a pair of block assists. Sciarra and sophomore Mckenzie Kingsbury each recorded a pair of block assists while Shelton dished out 32 helpers and 12 digs.
 
Mount Union had a balanced attack, with four players over six kills while Sabrina Ochoa and Riley Schenk had 15 and 13 assists respectively. The Purple Raiders controlled their attack errors, as they managed only 14 over four sets while Stevens had 26.
 
SUNY-New Paltz comes to Hoboken for the Ducks home-opener Wednesday at 7 p.m.
