Men’s Soccer Overcomes Pair of Deficits In Win Over Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIRE, N.Y. (September 16, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer seniors Matteo Sturla and Carson Pryor each scored two goals Wednesday to lead the Ducks to a 4-2 road win over Vassar College.

The win moved Stevens to 4-1-0 while Vassar fell to 2-1-3.

As a team, the Ducks tallied 14 shots to go along with three corners, while junior keeper Mike Renna made three saves in net.

Vassar broke through with an early goal three minutes into the match, but the Ducks answered six minutes later with the equalizer. Off a cross from the left wing from sophomore Tommy Dorsay, Pryor blasted a shot that went off the keeper's hands and into the net.

The goal was the fourth of the season for Pryor, tying him with senior Colin Phillips for the team lead.

The Brewers re-took the lead with a goal in the 21st minute, however Stevens was able to respond again in the 38th off Sturla's goal. Senior Chris Renna made the pass from the left side where Sturla finished in the middle of the net for the score.

The tie held for the remainder of the half before the Ducks connected with the go-ahead goal early in the second. Off a cross from senior Joe Cellitti, Sturla powered the ball to the top left corner for the goal, giving the Stevens rookie his first career multi-goal game.

The Ducks defense went to work from there, limiting Vassar to just three shots over the next 30 minutes before Pryor put the game out of reach with an unassisted goal in the final minute.

The Ducks will continue their road swing Saturday with the Empire 8 Conference opener at Elmira College at 1p.m.
