Men’s Soccer Ties Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (September 19, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference match with Elmira College.

The tie places Stevens at 4-1-1 (0-0-1) while Elmira moved to 1-4-1 (0-0-1).

Junior Patrick Masur chipped-in with the Stevens goal off an assist from senior Colin Phillips, while junior keeper Mike Renna made four saves. As a team, the Ducks out-shot Elmira 24-16, and tallied 12 corner kicks to Elmira's three.

After playing to a draw over the first 14 minutes, the Ducks broke through with Masur's score in minute 15. Off a right-side cross from Phillips, Masur headed the ball from five yards out for his first goal of the season.

The lead held for much of the half until Elmira found the equalizer in the final two minutes of play off a free kick. Renna made a pair of saves early in the second to preserve the deadlock, but the Ducks were unable to take advantage as both shots in the 52nd minute failed to reach the back of the net.

Senior Carson Pryor hit the post in the 60th minute before Elmira's keeper made saves in the 68th and 73rd to keep the game knotted at one. Stevens had opportunities again in the closing minutes of regulation, however each chance either went wide or was saved by Elmira keeper Austin Mansell.

The Ducks recorded the only two shots of the first overtime period, and five more in the second, but each opportunity was thwarted by Elmira before the final horn blew.

The Ducks will return home Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match against Swarthmore College.
