HOBOKEN, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 18, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team knocked off Arcadia University in straight sets before falling to Stockton University in three Friday.
The split ran Stevens record to 5-7 on the season.
Stevens 3, Arcadia 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-10)In the opening match of the Ducks Classic, Stevens dominated the Knights on the attacking end. They outslugged their opponents .233 to -.059, holding Arcadia to -.226 clip in the third set. Junior
Christina Sciarra notched nine kills while classmate
Mary Tobin had seven kills and six digs. Senior
Annemarie Thomas finished with five kills on six attempts while freshman
Brianna Perez recording 13 assists. Freshman
Gianna Fazio made her collegiate debut and scored an ace on her first serve.
Elizabeth Joseph led the Knights with five kills while Alexia Bell handed out 12 assists.
Stockton 3, Stevens 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18)In a reversal from the previous match, it was the visitors who controlled play at the net, forcing the Ducks into 20 errors while committing only six themselves. Sciarra once again tallied nine kills and chipped in six digs, while Perez and senior
Catie Shelton combined for 28 assists. Freshman
Emily Ferguson had a pair of kills and service aces while also contributing five digs.
Lindsay Schuele led the Ospreys with 10 kills while Rebecka Zabilowicz led the way with 15 digs. Jessica Ciandella and Shannon Clark tallied a combined 28 assists.
The Ducks are back in action tomorrow for day two of the Classic, as they take on Kean University and Endicott College at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
