HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 23, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team exploded for five goals Wednesday in a 5-0, non-conference win over Swarthmore College.
The win moved Stevens' record to 5-1-1, while Swarthmore fell to 3-5-0.
Senior
Carson Pryor led the Ducks with two goals, while senior
Colin Phillips tallied a goal and two assists. As a team, the Ducks out-shot Swarthmore 14-5.
The Ducks wasted no time getting on the board with Pryor's header in the third minute off a feed from Phillips. The score was Pryor's team-leading sixth of the season, while the assist brought Phillips' season points tally to 10.
Stevens' defense took control from there, holding Swarthmore shot-less over the next 40 minutes before the Ducks padded the lead in the closing minute of the first half. Off a corner from Phillips, sophomore
Patrick Boylan headed the ball out of the scrum and into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Pryor extended the lead to three with his second goal of the game early in the second, followed by a free-kick score from Phillips 10 minutes later. Then, with the game well in-hand, freshman
Danny Nasti connected with his first career goal off a feed from junior
Jay Mikula in the 77th minute.
The lead was more than enough for the Stevens defense, as it held Swarthmore shot-less over the final 15 minutes of regulation to close out the win
The Ducks will continue their two-match homestand Saturday when they host Houghton College at 3 p.m.
