Field Hockey Tallies Fourth Straight Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 22, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey sophomore Katti Thomasian scored the first two goals of her career Tuesday to lead the Ducks to a 4-0 win over Cabrini College.

The fourth straight win brought the Ducks record to 5-2, while Cabrini fell to 2-4.

Sophomore Victoria Alvarez led all players with four points off a goal and a pair of assists, while junior Emily Stukenborg made six saves for her first shutout of the season.

It was a defensive struggle for both teams for much of the first half with Stukenborg making a trio of saves to keep Cabrini off the board. The scoreless tie remained until late in the half before the Ducks broke through in the 32nd minute.

Off a shot from Alvarez, Thomasian reached her stick into traffic to deflect the ball into the cage. The goal was the first of Thomasian's career, while the assist gave Alvarez four on the season.

Senior Dailyn Brook added to the lead early in the second before the Ducks grew the lead to three with Alvarez's score in the 54th minute. Cabrini attempted to answer with a shot three minutes later, however the Ducks put the game away for good with a goal late in regulation.

After Alvarez gained control of the ball at midfield, the sophomore sprinted down the middle of the turf before passing to Thomasian for the one-timer. Both the goal and the assist were the second of the game for Thomasian and Alvarez respectively.

The lead was more than enough for the Stevens defense as sophomore Marley Brackelmanns-Puig preserved the shutout with a defensive save, before Stukenborg made her final save of the night 30 seconds later.

The Ducks will return to Empire 8 Conference competition Saturday when they host Washington & Jefferson College at noon in Hoboken.
