HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 26, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw Saturday against Houghton College in Empire 8 Conference play.
The tie moved Stevens' record to 5-1-2, while Houghton stands at 4-3-2.
Junior
Mike Renna matched a career-high with six saves, while as a team the Ducks out-shot Houghton 17-8.
The Ducks defense held Houghton shot-less over the first 20 minutes of the opening half, before unleashing an offensive barrage that resulted in five corners and three shots over a six minute period. Houghton had its best opportunity with a shot in the final two minutes of the half, but Renna made the save to preserve the tie.
Both teams went back and forth in the early part of the second before a header from senior
Joe Cellitti sailed wide in the 75th minute. The Ducks continued the pressure with a trio of shots over the final seven minutes, however two went high while the third went wide.
Stevens had an another opportunity with a header in the first overtime period, then a second in the second, but Houghton keeper Jacob Dunnett made the save on the first before the second went wide.
The Ducks will hit the road Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match at Widener University.
