CHESTER, Pa. (September 30, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six Wednesday with a 2-1 road win over Widener University.
The win moved Stevens to 6-1-2, while Widener fell to 4-5-1.
Seniors Collin Phillips and
Carson Pryor provided the Ducks scoring with one goal each, while junior
Mike Renna made four saves in goal. As a team, the Ducks out-shot Widener 14-11.
Phillips got the scoring going early with a goal in the sixth minute off a free kick, before the Ducks added to the lead eight minutes later with a goal from Pryor. Off a cross from sophomore
Tommy Dorsay, Pryor headed the ball past the lunging keeper for the score.
The goal was the sixth of the season for Phillips, while Pryor's has his team-leading eighth.
Strong defense and a pair of saves from Renna held the Stevens lead through the rest of the first half and into the second, before a penalty-kick goal from Widener cut the Stevens lead in half in the 62nd minute.
The goal would be all Stevens would allow however as Widener managed just one shot on goal over the final 29 minutes to clinch the Ducks win.
The Ducks will return home Saturday with a crucial Empire 8 Conference match against Ithaca College at noon.
