Field Hockey Continues Win Streak With Overtime Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 27, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey sophomore Katti Thomasian scored early in the first overtime period Sunday, propelling the Ducks to a 3-2 win over Kean University.

The sixth straight win for the Ducks brought their record to 7-2, while the loss was the first of the season for Kean (10-1).

Off a shot from junior Nolie Prouty, Thomasian was able to get her stick on the ball to deflect it past Kean's goalie for game-winning score. The goal was the second of the game for Thomasian, while the assist was Prouty's team-leading seventh of the season.

As a team, the Ducks outshot Kean 17-9 and tallied five more penalty corners.

After the Ducks applied some early pressure with shots in opening 10 minutes, Kean broke through with the go-ahead goal in minute 21. The lead held through the end of the first and into the second before Stevens came-through with the equalizer.

After corralling the ball at the top of zone, Prouty fired a line-drive shot past the goalie for the score in the 51st minute. Kean answered back seven minutes later to re-take the lead, however Stevens once again was able to respond with a game-tying score.

Off a shot from sophomore Victoria Alvarez, Thomasian was able to get the deflection to tie the game at two with four minutes remaining in regulation. The assist brought Alvarez's point total to a team-leading 18, while the goal was the third of the season for Thomasian.

The Ducks controlled play early in the first overtime with a pair of near-misses from junior Taylor Welch, before Thomasian tallied the game-winner off her second deflection of the day.

The Ducks will hit the road Wednesday against Montclair State University for a 7 p.m. game.
