MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 30, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team had its six game win-streak snapped Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to No. 6 Montclair State University.
The loss dropped Stevens to 7-3, while Montclair St. moved to 9-1 with the win.
Senior
Dailyn Brook provided the Ducks scoring with a goal in the eighth minute, placing her one away from tying the program's all-time scoring mark. In goal, junior
Emily Stukenborg tallied a season-high 13 saves.
The Red Hawks came out with pressure early in the first half, leading to game's first goal in the fifth minute. The lead didn't last long however, as Brook answered with the equalizer two minutes later off a feed from sophomore
Cassidy O'Hearn.
The goal was the team-leading seventh of the season for the Stevens senior, while the assist was O'Hearn's first.
Defense took control from there as both sides had opportunities that came up short thanks to strong goal-tending. The tie remained until the closing seconds of the half before Montclair St. broke the deadlock with a goal in the closing minute.
The Red Hawks added to the lead early in the second, before extending it to three with a goal in the 68th minute. The Ducks were able to respond with a trio of shots over the final two minutes, however Montclair St. made the save on two before the third went wide.
The Ducks will continue their schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Hartwick College.
