Perfect Shooting From Zychowski Leads Men’s Basketball To Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 29, 2016) - Senior Kevin Zychowski went a perfect 6-for-6 from three and 7-for-7 from the line Friday to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team to a 102-95, Empire 8 Conference win over St. John Fisher College.

The win evened Stevens' record at 8-8 (4-4), while Fisher fell to 12-5 (6-2).

Zychowski finished with 27 points to set a new career high, while senior Alex Lorenz tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Evan Klimchak contributed 22 points to go along with four boards and three assists, and senior Patrick Barron chipped-in with 16.

As a team, the Ducks shot 49 percent from the field and 51 percent from three.

After going up one four minutes in, Fisher built a 12 point lead with a 14-2 run with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Klimchak ended the run with a three however, sparking a 12-2 Stevens run to bring the Ducks to within one.

Barron tied the game with a three one minute later, then again with four minutes remaining before Klimchak gave the Ducks their first lead of the game off a jumper with two and half to go. Fisher responded with a 9-2 run, but a Klimchak three in the final minute cut the Ducks deficit to two going into the break.

Fisher re-built a nine point lead within the first four minutes of the second, before an 8-0 run keyed by threes from sophomore Jonathan Li and Zychowski got the Ducks to within one. The Cardinals held onto to the lead over next several minutes however until the Ducks unleashed a 16-4 run to gain a double-digit advantage.

Zychowski started the run with a three, and led the Ducks over the next three minutes with two more from beyond the arc and five from the line. Fisher cut the deficit to single digits, however a Lorenz layup brought the lead back to 11 before Klimchak made it 16 with two minutes to go to seal the win.

The Ducks will return to the court tomorrow as they'll host Elmira College at 1 p.m. in Hoboken. In addition to #redOUT Alumni Day, the team will also be hosting senior day.
