Krause Double-Double Powers Women’s Basketball Past Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (January 4, 2016) – Senior Dylan Krause scored a season-high 16 points to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team to a 70-55 Empire 8 Conference win over Elmira College Monday.

The Soaring Eagles dropped to 3-7 overall and are 0-1 in the E8, while the Ducks won their second straight and are 6-3, 2-0 in the E8.

Krause gave the Ducks a lead they wouldn't give up just nine seconds into the opening frame, as she connected on a three pointer. Stevens kept Elmira off the scoreboard for the final 6:09 of the first quarter, and closed out on a 10-0 run.

Junior Erica Guketlov extended the run with a jumper to begin period two, and the Ducks were able to keep the Soaring Eagles to just 20 points for the opening 20 minutes. Elmira was held to just 29.6% shooting from the field, and turned the ball over 13 times to the Ducks five.

The Soaring Eagles outscored Stevens 35-25 over the final 20 minutes, and closed the game out with a 9-0 run, but the strong first half by the Ducks was too much to overcome.

In addition to the 16 points, Krause also grabbed 10 rebounds, while sophomore Megan Brown had her second straight double-double of 12 points and 12 boards. Guketlov dished out six assists, with senior Kaitlyn Astel scoring 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting for the second straight contest.

Danielle Cleary finished with 14 points while Meghan Loya had six points and nine rebounds.

The Ducks will return home to take on Utica College Thursday at 8 p.m.
