Zychowski Sets Career-High In Men’s Basketball’s Blowout Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 7, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball senior Kevin Zychowski scored a career-high 20 points Thursday night to lead the Ducks to a 96-62 win over Utica College.

The win moved Stevens to 6-5 (2-1), while Utica fell to 3-7 (0-2).

Sophomore Thomas Cook registered a career-high of his own with 13 points to go along with five rebounds, while freshman Ryan Coffey scored 14 in addition to eight boards.

In all, six different Ducks hit double-figure scoring marks rounded-out by 12 from junior Patrick Barron, 11 from junior Evan Klimchak, and 10 from sophomore Chris Cosgrove

Stevens shot 50.7 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three, while holding Utica to 30.2 percent shooting. The 34-point win was the biggest of the season.

After building a two point lead over the first 12 minutes of regulation, the Ducks gained separation with an 11-0 run capped by a Barron layup to go up 11 with five minutes to go in the half. Utica ended the run with a jumper to get back within single digits, however Stevens answered with another 11-0 run to build a commanding 20 point lead.

Junior Michael Signer started the burst with a pair of made free throws, before the Ducks poured it on with threes on three consecutive possessions. Utica was able to get back to within 14, however three straight in the final minute put the Ducks up 17 heading into the break.

Stevens was able to maintain its comfortable lead, extending it to 21 off a layup from Signer, followed by a three from Zychowski to make it 24. A layup from Coffey four minutes later brought the lead to 30, before another Zychowski three made it 34 with five minutes to go.

The cushion was more than enough for the Ducks from there as they easily cruised over the final few minutes to the blowout win.

The Ducks will head back out on the road Saturday with a 2 p.m. game at Hartwick College, before a stretch of six straight home games starts on Jan. 15.
