Men’s Basketball Falls At Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. (January 9, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team had its two-game win streak snapped Saturday in a 96-72 road loss to Hartwick College.

The loss dropped Stevens to 6-6 (2-2), while Hartwick moved to 7-4 (2-0).

Freshman Ryan Coffey matched a career-high with 19 points to go along with six rebounds, while junior Evan Klimchak scored 17 on 6-of-12 shooting. Senior Alex Lorenz scored nine to go along with six boards, and senior Kevin Zychowski scored seven.

As a team the Ducks shot just under 40 percent from the field, and forced 13 Hartwick turnovers.

A three from junior Patrick Barron put the Ducks up three four minutes into the game, but Hartwick answered with an 8-0 run to go up three with 14 minutes to go. The Hawks were able to maintain their lead over the next several minutes, extending it to 12 off a three midway through the half.

A three six minutes later brought the Hartwick lead to 19, before the Hawks closed the half on a 7-4 run to maintain that advantage heading into the break.

Hartwick's lead ballooned to as much as 25, but Stevens answered with a 7-2 run keyed by four from Klimchak to cut the deficit to 20 with 14 minutes to go.

Stevens got to within 16 off a dunk from Lorenz, however it's as close as they would get the rest of the day as Hartwick closed the game on an 8-2 run to seal the victory.

The Ducks will return to action Friday for a 6 p.m. game with Houghton College.
