Men’s Soccer Enjoys Offensive Explosion In Win Over Elmira

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 1, 2016) – Five different players scored goals for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team Saturday in a 5-1 Empire 8 win over Elmira.

The win moved Stevens to 4-3-1 (2-1-0), while Elmira fell to 3-5-1 (1-2-0).

Senior Nick DeFelice, Daniel Aversano, junior Tommy Dorsay, sophomore Danny Nasti, and junior Gerald Lamina each tallied goals for Stevens, while freshman Mitko Bozinov converted a save in net to earn his second career win. Senior Patrick Masur recorded a pair of assists to help catapult the Stevens offense.

Despite the lopsided goal margin, the Ducks only outshot Elmira by a 14-2 margin, but dominated in shots on goal 10-2.

The five goals were the most since Stevens scored six in last fall's regular season finale over Nazareth.

Elmira narrowly missed taking an early lead in the opening minutes after a shot banged off the post, and Stevens made them pay with the go-ahead goal in the 16th minute.

Out of a scrum in front of the net, Masur grabbed control and sent a pass between two defenders to a darting DeFelice. The goal was the first of the season for the veteran, and the second assist for Masur.

Stevens had one more opportunity in the half with a good look from senior Jay Mikula in the 36th, but the opportunity curved just past the post as the Ducks took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Aversano extended the Stevens lead early in the second off a feed from Masur for his first career Stevens goal, before Dorsay's unassisted score in the 69th minute gave the Ducks the comfortable three-goal lead.

Nasti continued the barrage three minutes later with a header off junior Gerald Lamina's rebound, followed by Lamina's bender into the top-right corner. Elmira did finally break through late in the half, but the damage was well done as Stevens cruised the rest of the way to the victory.

The Ducks will continue their four-match homestand Wednesday night when they host No. 14 Franklin & Marshall in Hoboken.
