GLASSBORO, N.J. (October 12, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was unable to overcome a late one-goal deficit Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss to No. 20 Rowan.
The loss dropped Stevens to 8-6, while Rowan moved to 10-4.
Seniors
Taylor Welch and
Nolie Prouty each tallied shots on goal, while senior goalie
Emily Stukenborg made four saves.
As a team, Stevens registered three shots with five corners.
Defense dominated early on for both sides as each team traded just one shot over the game's first 26 minutes. Both teams traded one more before Stukenborg made a stop on Jacqui Rosati's shot with six minutes remaining, sending the game into the half deadlocked at one.
Stukenborg made another save seven minutes into the second, before Stevens' defense extinguished a Rowan threat 18 minutes in by blocking an opportunity off the corner.
The Profs finally did break through with 12 minutes on the clock with a goal from Abbie Tucker, but Stukenborg stopped the deficit from getting larger with a save three minutes later.
Sophomore
Regan Littell attempted the equalizer with under three minutes to go with a shot before a pair of penalty corners, but Rowan stopped each opportunity to seal the loss.
The Ducks will return to Hoboken Saturday when they host William Paterson at 1 p.m.
