W&J Tops Field Hockey

WASHINGTON, Pa. (October 29, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey dropped its regular season finale to Washington and Jefferson, 3-2 on the road Saturday in Empire 8 play.

The loss evened Stevens' record at 9-9 (5-3), while W&J moved to 14-3 (5-3).

Seniors Nolie Prouty and Taylor Welch accounted for Stevens' two goals, while juniors Victoria Alvarez and Katti Thomasian each recorded assists.

In goal, senior Emily Stukenborg converted six saves.

W&J went up early with a score seven minutes in, but Stevens responded 16 minutes later with Prouty's equalizing goal. Off the corner, Alvarez delivered a short cross to Prouty who fired it past W&J goalie Karlie Baran.

The Presidents grabbed the lead back three minutes into the second, before the Ducks once again provided the answer with a goal from Welch three minutes later.

W&J was able to re-gain the lead in the 57th minute however, and stopped Stevens' final attempt in the 65th by blocking sophomore Hannah Silvestri's shot off a corner feed from sophomore Regan Littell.

Stevens will await its Empire 8 seeding with the results of Saturday's games around the league.
