UNION, N.J. (November 15, 2016) – Five Ducks hit double figures Tuesday night as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with a 103-73 drubbing of Kean.
Stevens hit a program record 22 from beyond the arc in the win, besting the mark set last season against Drew.
Senior
Evan Klimchak led the way with 22 points in addition to six boards and five assists, while senior
Patrick Barron, sophomore
Kevin Florio and freshman
Spencer Cook each chipped in with 16. Sophomore
Ryan Coffey scored 13 to go along with five rebounds.
The Ducks shot 50 percent from three, in addition to hitting 51 percent from the field.
Stevens stormed out to a 13-2 lead capped by a three from Barron, before a layup from the veteran made it 15-5. Kean answered with a 5-0 spurt to pull within five, but back-to-back threes from Florio followed by one from Cook ballooned the lead to 14.
The Ducks continued to keep their foot on the gas over the remainder of the half, before threes from Coffey and Florio solidified a 27-pont halftime lead.
A 10-0 Kean run early in the second brought the Cougars to within 19, but Klimchak ended the run with a three followed by three straight from Coffey to make it 66-41. A three from Barron gave Stevens its largest lead of the night at 30, before a layup from Cook made it 32.
The cushion was more than enough for the Ducks as Kean never threatened the rest of the way.
The Ducks will continue their two-game road trip next week when they travel to FDU-Florham Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. game.
