Men’s Basketball Routs Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (February 13, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team outscored Utica College by 33 points in the first half Saturday in a 94-67 win.

The win evened Stevens' record at 11-11 (7-6), and kept them in sole possession of fourth place in the Empire 8 Conference. The loss dropped Utica to 6-16 (3-11).

Senior Kevin Zychowski and junior Evan Klimchak each scored 19 to lead the Ducks, while senior Alex Lorenz scored 14 in addition to eight rebounds. Sophomore Jonathan Li contributed nine points, and sophomore Chris Cosgrove and junior Thomas Ahern each scored six.

Stevens shot 52 percent from the field, and forced 20 Utica turnovers.

A 16-4 run to open the game gave the Ducks the early 12-point advantage, before a three from Klimchak five minutes later ballooned the lead to 15. Sophomore Patrick Barron extended it to 18 with a three on the next possession, followed by a layup Lorenz to make it 22.

The lead grew to as much as 28 with just under four minutes remaining, before Zychowski put an exclamation point on the half with a three in the final minute to put the Ducks up 33.

Utica mounted some resistance with a 6-1 run to start the half, but the Ducks quickly answered with a three from Klimchak, followed one minute later with a three-point play from freshman Ryan Coffey

The Pioneers did manage to get within 25 midway through the half, but it's as close as they would get the rest of the afternoon as the Ducks never let them back in the game while closing out regulation.

The Ducks will play their final regular season game of the season Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host Hartwick College at Canavan Arena.
