ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 19, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team couldn't overcome a first half deficit Friday in a 90-65 Empire 8 Conference road loss to Nazareth College.
The loss dropped Stevens to 12-12 (8-7), while Naz moved to 16-8 (12-3). Despite the loss however, the Ducks maintained their spot as the fourth and final team in next weekend's E8 championship due to a loss by Ithaca College.
Senior
Alex Lorenz led the Ducks with 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior
Evan Klimchak and senior
Kevin Zychowski each chipped-in with 12.
As a team, the Ducks shot 41 percent from the field, and 58 percent from behind the arc.
Naz jumped out to a 12 point lead after opening the game on a 17-5 run, but the Ducks responded with a pair of free throws from Lorenz before a layup from freshman
Ryan Coffey cut the deficit to the eight.
The Golden Flyers regained the double-digit lead shortly after, but a 15-2 Stevens run just under midway through the half brought the Ducks to within three with eight minutes to go. It's as close as Stevens would get the rest of the half however, as Naz re-built the lead to 19 after holding the Ducks scoreless over the final 2:28.
Naz extended the lead to 22 early in the second, before a free throw with 13 to go made it 23. Stevens pulled back to within 16 after a layup from Lorenz with 7:20 to go, but Naz answered with an 8-0 run to regain the comfortable lead en route to the win.
The Ducks will wrap-up their regular season tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game at St. John Fisher College.
