Men’s Tennis Set For Season Opener

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 19, 2016) - The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team will look to continue its run of dominance over the Empire 8 Conference, while maintaining its status as a regional and national power when it takes the courts this spring.

SEASON REWIND
The Ducks set a program record with 19 wins last spring against one of the toughest schedules in the country, culminating with a sixth consecutive E8 Championship and a sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

For the 2015 fall schedule, the Ducks competed in three events including a match against No. 23 Wesleyan University. Senior Matthew Heinrich led the Ducks with nine wins, and finished as the runner-up at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championship at singles.

THE SLATE
The Ducks 2016 schedule features 11 opponents currently ranked in the ITA's top-40, including three ranked in the top-10 in No. 6 University of Chicago, No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer, and No. 9 Bowdoin College.

Ten matches will take place at home on either the Stevens Tennis Courts or the Binghampton Racquet Club, four of which will be against E8 opponents.

RANKED DUCKS
Heinrich comes into the spring ranked No.11 nationally at singles, while Heinrich and senior Ben Foran enter the season ranked No. 18 at doubles. Regionally, Heinrich is ranked No. 4 in the northeast at singles, junior Charles Drake No. 23, and sophomore Danny Polk No. 25. Heinrich and Foran represent the Ducks in doubles regionally as well at No. 5.

The three Ducks ranked regionally to end the fall set a program record.

TOP DUCKS
Heinrich enters his final season at Stevens with an impressive resume that includes a pair of NCAA All-American nods, ITA All-American recognition at singles and doubles, and three E8 Player of the Year awards.

The Tennessee native also cemented is name into the record books this fall when he became Stevens' all-time singles wins leader, as well as the all-time leader in combined singles and doubles wins.

Foran will also go down as one of the greatest to ever take the court at Stevens after back-to-back first team all-conference selections, and last season's ITA Northeast doubles crown. Foran is eight singles wins shy of 50 for his career, and is top-10 all time in combined singles and doubles wins.

Entering this season, Heinrich and Foran are tied for third all-time in doubles team wins.

SENIOR LEADER
Senior Jacob Thigpen returns to the Ducks after going a percent 10-0 last season combined at singles and doubles, in a season in which he was named Stevens' E8 Sportsman of the Year. Thigpen provides veteran leadership to the team, and will contribute at both singles and doubles.

WELCOME BACK
Juniors Michael Feldman, Antonio Perich, and Drake comprise the three Stevens juniors who will each compete for spots in the Ducks lineup this spring. Drake led the Ducks with 15 wins at singles last spring, while Feldman finished third on the team in doubles wins.

Perich went 15-3 combined at singles and doubles last season, and has accumulated 50 wins combined over the course of his career.

SUPER SOPHOMORES
Polk was the Ducks top rookie a season ago after totaling 14 singles wins, including a perfect 12-0 record from the No. 5 slot. Polk also established himself as on the top doubles players on squad with a team-leading 16 wins, including a 12-1 record when teamed with Drake.

Klye Henry and David Schulz also contributed to the Ducks scoring last spring with a combined 16 wins at singles, while Henry finished tied for third on the team with 13 doubles wins. William Persson was 8-5 overall at singles, including an undefeated record at second and third.

ENTERING THE FOLD
The Ducks will welcome a pair of freshman into this season's squad in Kyle Cenderelli and Divin Sarthak, each of whom saw their first collegiate action this fall.

UP FIRST
The Ducks will open their season this weekend with the two-day Mary Washington Invite, where they'll face-off against No. 22 North Carolina Wesleyan College and No. 16 University of Mary Washington.
