Men’s Lacrosse Tops No. 19 Endicott In Overtime

BEVERLY, Mass. (February 28, 2016) – Senior Andrew Scrutchfield scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left in overtime to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to a 16-15 win over No. 19 Endicott College Sunday.

The Ducks won their second straight, while Endicott fell to 0-2.

Will Jennings, who had seven goals on the afternoon, opened the scoring seven seconds in. Scrutchfield countered 33 seconds later, setting off a wild first period where eight goals were scored. Jennings would add three straight markers in the second quarter, pushing the Endicott lead to 9-4.

The Ducks would counter with three straight, as freshman Dean Peluso and senior Connor McKeon along with freshman Eric Radbourne each hitting the mesh for goals. Just 11 ticks after the Radbourne tally, the Gulls Nicholas D'Elia pushed across a goal to give the hosts a 10-7 halftime lead.

After Endicott scored six seconds in the third, Stevens rattled home three straight, capped with a strike from freshman Max Bailey. The Gulls answered with three of their own, reaffirming the four goal cushion. Bailey and senior Connor O'Shea tacked on man up goals in the fourth quarter, and freshman Tommy Dawson scored an unassisted goal with 4:10 left to cut the gap to one.

Radbourne evened the game for the first time since 0-0 with a man up goal with 3:05 left. Endicott had a chance to win it in regulation, but a Jennings shot was stopped by freshman Carson White with two seconds remaining.

Junior Jake Krantz and senior Colin Sawula each forced turnovers in the extra session, and Scrutchfield took a feed from O'Shea and beat the keeper to end the game.

Bailey and Scrutchfield each had three goals, with Scrutchfield chipping in six ground balls. Radbourne, McKeon, O'Shea and senior Matt Ferentini all tallied two goals, while sophomore Scott Wedgeworth won 10 faceoffs. White had eight saves in the win.

Colin Bannon had five goals and four assists for the Gulls, while Tommy Hughes won 23 faceoffs.
