ALFRED, N.Y. (February 6, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball senior
Alex Lorenz pulled-down a career-high 15 rebounds Saturday in an 84-71 loss to Alfred University.
The loss dropped Stevens to 9-11 (5-6), while Alfred moved to 9-12 (5-7).
Lorenz scored 21 in addition to the boards to give him his seventh double-double of the season, while junior
Evan Klimchak scored 19 to go along with three boards and three assists. Freshman
Ryan Coffey also set a new career-high with 14 rebounds in addition to a pair of assists.
The Ducks outrebounded Alfred 52-44, and held the Saxons to just 16 percent shooting from behind the arc.
An Alfred three midway through the first half put the Ducks in a four-point hole, however Stevens responded with a 13-3 run to go up six with five minutes to go. Klimchak led the spurt with five, including the capper with a three off a feed from Coffey.
The Saxons were able to stay within reach from there, before Stevens ended the half with an 11-6 run to take a nine point advantage into the break.
Alfred jumped back into the game with a 7-0 run to start the half, but eight points from Lorenz over a two minute stretch built the Stevens lead back to six.
It's the largest lead the Ducks would enjoy the rest of the way however as Alfred regained the lead off a three just over midway through the half, before extending it to double-digits with just under six to go en route to the win.
The Ducks will return to Hoboken Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup against Ithaca College.
