ARLINGTON, Va. (March 11, 2016) – The No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team picked up wins over Marymount University and Lancaster Bible College Friday.
The Ducks moved to 21-4, while Marymount fell to 13-7 and LBC dropped to 6-14.
No. 4 Stevens 3, Marymount 1 (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 25-20)Each side recorded a pair of service errors in the opening part of the first set, but a kill by Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz cut the Duck lead to 9-8. A kill by junior
Gabe Shankweiler put Stevens up 16-12, but the host Saints countered with five of the next seven. Senior
Chris Vaughan slammed home a kill to go up 22-19, but Marymount scored three straight to tie. Vaughan would get back-to-back kills to end the set.
The Ducks never trailed in the second set, and the Ducks continued to keep up with hot hitting, as senior
Tim Ferriter spiked one home to go up 9-5 and forced timeout. The Saints would get within one after the timeout, but were unable to find the equalizing point. Ferriter put away a kill from junior
Scott Russell to put the visitors up two sets.
The Ducks hit .486 in the second set, but dropped down to .192 in third, which Marymount won. They rebounded in the fourth, hitting .500 with only two errors. Despite falling behind 6-4, senior
Etan Bennett ended a 3-0 spurt with a kill and the Ducks did not look back. A Duck attack error put Marymount behind by just one, but Stevens closed the match with five of the six points.
Vaughan hit a blistering .522 with 15 kills and 12 digs while Ferriter slugged .421 with 21 kills, six digs and five block assists. Russell dished out 45 assists to go along with six digs.
Ksiazkiewicz had 11 kills, four aces and four blocks for the Saints.
No. 4 Stevens 3, Lancaster Bible 0 (25-4, 25-8, 25-12)The Ducks were able to hold Lancaster Bible to a paltry -.032 attack percentage while hitting .656 themselves, including a .850 clip in the second set. Senior
John Eddins served up 10 straight points, including two aces to open the first set. Junior
Jordan Stuart notched four kills during the opening rally.
Freshman
Dylan DeBoer opened the second stanza with back-to-back kills, and midway through the frame, freshman
Jacob Stillman served a pair of consecutive aces. To end the stanza, junior
Ian Bennett also put away a pair of attacks.
The Chargers were competitive to begin the third, but the Ducks pulled away, starting with a kill from freshman
Niko Lambert. A triple-block by freshmen
Joshua Hinton and
Jacob Patterson and sophomore
Thomas Burrell brought up match point, and Bennett served an ace to end it.
DeBoer had a career-best 17 kills, while Stuart and Bennett combined for 17. Sophomore
Cagan Friend led the way with eight digs.
The Ducks will be back in action on Wednesday, taking on Juniata College at 4 p.m.
