HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 18, 2016) – Senior
Nick Sieber of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball drilled a one-out single to left center to send the Ducks to a 3-2 walk-off win over Kean University Friday.
The Ducks moved to 7-5 on the year while Kean evened up at 8-8. It was the second meeting of the season between the two schools, with Stevens winning 3-2 each time.
Stevens got on the board in the second inning, after junior
Michael Mule' singled and moved to second on an error. After moving to third on a groundout, classmate
Harrison Kaye dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt and beat the throw for an RBI single.
The Ducks padded their lead in the seventh, as senior
Jonathan Toro reached on a one-out walk, and promptly stole second. Toro shifted over 90 feet on a groundout, and was knocked home with an RBI single by junior
Zeph Walters.
The Cougars received a run in the top of the eighth, as senior Eric Fernandez drilled a two-out home run to right field. In the ninth, Stevens retired a pair of pinch hitters on strikeouts to open the frame, but the next four batters reached base, including three on walks, to tie the game up.
Toro led off with a walk in the ninth, and moved to second on a perfectly placed bunt by freshman
Carlos Leon. After Walters was drilled with a pitch, Sieber launched a pitch to left center that one-hopped the wall to send the Ducks to victory.
