The three sets the Ducks won, they committed a combined six attack errors; in the two they lost, 10. Warner was erratic, committing 27 attack errors through the match, including 10 in the fourth set. The Royals never led in the opening set, and Burrell would end set one with a vicious solo block.

A kill by the Royals Devin Lofton put the hosts up 15-11 in the third stanza, but Stevens would come back with eight straight, capped off with a double-block from senior John Eddins and Burrell. Warner could end the set with six of the final eight to go up two sets to one.

The Ducks would use a mid-set 3-0 spurt to take a 13-9 lead, and would tally four straight to pull ahead 18-11, capped off with a kill from Niko Lambert. The Royals would pull within four, but Shankweiler notched a pair of kills to even the match at two sets.

A service ace by freshman Jacob Stillman put Stevens up 8-6 in the deciding set, but the hosts notched back-to-back kills to even things up. The Ducks would score five of the following six markers to go push the edge to 13-9, but once again the Royals got within a pair. Ferriter would slam home a kill and stepped up to the service line for a match-clinching ace.
