No. 12 Men’s Lacrosse Routs Alfred

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 26, 2016) – Freshman Max Bailey of the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team recorded a career-high 11 points in a 22-10 victory over Alfred University Saturday.

The Ducks moved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Alfred fell to 6-2, and 0-1 in the E8.

Stevens tallied the first two markers of the game, as seniors Connor O'Shea and Matt Ferentini scored goals assisted by Bailey. After Keenan Denis got one back for Alfred, sophomore John Boutureira scored just 33 seconds later to put Stevens back up two. Jake Lynch scored with a man-up 1:08 into the second, but Bailey would score 30 seconds later to answer.

The Bailey tally started a 4-0 run for the Ducks, capped off by a man-up goal from Ferentini. Bailey would complete his hat-trick with 29 ticks left in the second, sending Stevens into the break up 8-3. After trading the first two goals of the third, Alfred scored three goals in just over two and a half minutes cutting the lead to 9-7.

Sophomore Tommy Dawson ended the run and started a 4-0 spurt for the Ducks, that saw O'Shea and Ferentini add goals. After a Nick Skibitsky tally put the Saxons back down five, O'Shea completed his hat-trick with four second left in the frame to put the Ducks up six.

An illegal stick penalty on Alfred put the Ducks on a three minute man advantage to open the fourth, and the hosts took advantage. Freshman Eric Radbourne opened the man-advantage scoring 35 seconds into the penalty, and Bailey added two more before the major ended. The 7-0 run by the Ducks broke the game wide open, as junior Tim Leahey and sophomore JP Southren added goals to close out the scoring.

Bailey had seven goals and four helpers, while Ferentini and O'Shea combined for seven goals and six assists. Junior Jan Schoonen led the way with six ground balls and senior Brett Incollingo was 10-of-17 on faceoffs. Freshman Carson White made 10 saves in the victory.

Jake Lynch had four goals for Alfred, who also got a pair of goals from Joe Fornataro and Nick Skibitsky.

The Ducks will travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
