No. 4 Men’s Volleyball Cruises Past No. 13 Dominican

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 8, 2016) – The No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team topped No. 13 Dominican College in straight sets Wednesday.

Dominican fell to 12-7 while Stevens moved to 19-4 in the 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 win.

Stevens never trailed in the opening set, going up 6-1 thanks to back-to-back service aces from senior Tim Ferriter. A Robert Mead kill brought the Stars to within 17-15, but the Ducks tailed three straight points to push the lead back to five. The visitors would get no closer than four, and Ferriter capped off the set with a kill.

The Stars up 3-1 in set two, before junior Jordan Stuart served up four straight markers. He was helped out with back-to-back blocks by senior Etan Bennett. A Luke Spicer kill made the game 6-5, but seven of the next eight points went to Stevens; the run finished off with a thunderous ace from freshman Jacob Stillman. Stevens took the set after a vicious triple-block from Bennett, junior Gabe Shankweiler and freshman Dylan DeBoer.

Dominican hung around in set three, falling behind by a single point at 10-9. The Ducks scored five of the next six markers to gain control back and never looked back. After a Stevens ball-handling error made the score 19-16, Stevens scored five straight to bring up match point. The Stars countered with five of their own, but Stuart slammed a kill to end the match.

Shankweiler and Ferriter each had 12 kills, while Ferriter was tops with four aces. Bennett controlled tempo at the net, netting seven total blocks. Freshman Niko Lambert was tops on the team with nine digs.

Spicer said Dominican with 11 kills, while Alex Coyne dished out 27 assists.

The Ducks travel to Virginia on Friday to take on Marymount University and Lancaster Bible College beginning at 10 a.m.
