HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 9, 2016) – The No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team held Springfield College to one goal in the second half, as they defeated the Pride 11-6 Wednesday.
The Ducks moved to 4-1 on the year, while the Pride fell to 1-2. Stevens avenged a 7-6 defeat in Springfield last year.
Stevens opened the scoring 2:17 into the affair, as junior
Connor McKeon collected a pass of senior
Connor O'Shea and scored. The Pride would respond with a pair of goals from Kevin Dean 28 seconds apart, but senior
Matt Ferentini leveled the score at two.
Ferentini would complete his hat trick in the second quarter, netting the two markers of the frame. However, the Pride would tally the last goals, the final one with 18 seconds left and a man up, to send the visitors into halftime with a one goal edge.
The host Ducks would open the second half with a 4-0 spurt, capped with freshman
Eric Radbourne and sophomore
Tommy Dawson connecting on man up goals. After Dom Abate scored with 11 ticks left in the third, Stevens would score the final three goals of the afternoon, capped with a strike from Ferentini. The goal was assisted by freshman
Max Bailey, who had weaved through the defenders and found Ferentini open.
Senior
Andrew Scrutchfield extended his goal scoring streak to five games, while Ferentini led all with 11 shots. The defensive threesome of juniors
Jake Krantz,
Jan Schoonen and
Tim Fair combined to force four turnovers, while the team went 15-of-21 in the "X." Freshman
Carson White made 12 saves in the win.
Chris Santaniello made 10 saves in the setback for the Pride.
The Ducks will be back in action next Wednesday at 7 p.m. taking on Trinity College (Conn.)
