POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (April 16, 2016) – Junior
Nolan Bennett collected three hits to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team to an 11-3 win over Vassar College Saturday.
The Ducks moved to 18-10 while Vassar dropped to 10-14.
After each side failed to score in the first, Stevens picked up two runs in the top of the second. Senior
Nick Sieber led off with a walk, and junior
Michael Mule' drilled a 1-1 pitch for his third home run of the season. The visitors would add five in the third inning, as Bennett and senior
Jonathan Toro each had two RBI hits and Toro would swipe home plate to end the third inning rally.
Senior
Jayson Yano led off the fourth with a single, and advanced to scoring position with a stolen base. Junior
Garrett Wells went the other way and singled to left center, scoring Yano from second. Vassar would get a run back in the home half of the fourth, loading the bases and scoring on an error.
The Ducks tacked one more on the scoreboard in the fifth, but the Brewers would add a pair in their at bat, getting an RBI triple from leadoff hitter Mike Koscielniak and a sacrifice fly by Denis Shanagher. Stevens concluded the scoring in the sixth, as Sieber roped an RBI double to left field and junior
Zeph Walters scored on a wild pitch.
Bennett, Mule' and Toro each had two RBI's in the win, while freshman
Carlos Leon went 2-for-2 off the bench. Yano hurled five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) while punching out two.
The Ducks will be back in action tomorrow, taking on Elmira College.
