DALLAS, Pa. (April 20, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team dropped a 5-3 non-conference game to Misericordia College Wednesday.
The Cougars moved to 22-9, while Stevens fell to 19-11.
Senior
Robert Robbins and Garrett Pelko of MU traded zeros through the first five and a half innings, with Robbins surrendering one hit and Pelko two. The Ducks had a pair of runners on in the first and sixth innings, but were unable to push a run across
Misericordia struck for two in the sixth, thanks to a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. Stevens answered back with two in the seventh, as senior
Jonathan Toro had an RBI single and classmate
Jayson Yano doubled down the right field line. The host Cougars regained the lead in the seventh, and then had a pair of run scoring doubles in the eighth to go up 5-2.
Misericordia got the first two outs in the ninth, before Stevens mounted a rally. Junior
Garrett Wells walked, and
Nolan Bennett knocked him in with a double to right center. Junior
Zeph Walters singled through the left side to put men on the corners, but that was as close as they would get, as MU got a strikeout to end the game.
Bennett went 3-for-5 while junior
Michael Mule' went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Robbins struck out three in the five and two thirds innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs.
The Ducks head to Rochester, N.Y. for a four game series this weekend against St. John Fisher College beginning Saturday.
