HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 23, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team tallied 10 goals in the first quarter to power past Elmira College 22-3 on Saturday.
The Ducks upped their record to 13-3 and 6-1 in the Empire 8 Conference while Elmira fell to 4-9, 1-5 in the E8.
For the second straight game, Stevens opened the scoring early, this time it was freshman
Max Bailey scoring 1:03 in. Bailey would complete a hat trick before the game was nine minutes old, as the Ducks scored the first nine of the contest. Senior
Andrew Scrutchfield also added a pair during the opening run, while classmates
Colin Sawula and
Matt Ferentini netted goals.
The Soaring Eagles scored three times in the first quarter, including two in a 16 second span late in the frame. But freshman
Nicholas Carnovale tallied a man down goal with 1:01 left to end the EC run. Sawula, along with senior
Michael Serrante and freshman
Eric Radbourne each added their second tallies of the contest in the second quarter.
The Ducks controlled the second half as well outshooting Elmira 17-7 over the final 30, including 13 shots on goal. Stevens dominated the faceoff circle, winning 26-of-27 throughout the day.
Bailey led all scorers with four points, while Serrante had two goals and one assist. Freshman
Nicholas Carnovale, sophomore
Scott Wedgeworth and senior
Jeff Wyckoff each had perfect days in the "X" each winning six or more faceoffs. Senior
Austin Boyd made his first start of the season, making six saves in three quarters of action.
The Ducks will host No.19 Nazareth College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
