HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 10, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team held Houghton College to just one shot Saturday in a dominating 4-0 Empire 8 Conference win in Hoboken.

The win moved Stevens to 2-1 (1-0), while Houghton fell to 2-2 (0-1).

Junior Katti Thomasian led the Ducks with a pair of goals, while juniors Cassidy O'Hearn and Haines Duff each chipped in with one. Junior Victoria Alvarez assisted on both of Thomasian's scores to round out the Stevens offense.

As a team, the Ducks tallied 26 shots including 15 on goal, and dominated in corners 14-1. 

Stevens peppered the Houghton cage early in the first, before breaking through with a penalty-shot goal from O'Hearn six minutes in. Alvarez was taken down on a breakaway to set up the opportunity that gave O'Hearn her second score of the season.

The Ducks continued the offensive pressure over the next 13 minutes, adding another to the board during the 19th minute off a goal from Duff. Prouty assisted the score with a shot from the left side of the half circle, where Duff connected on a deflection for her first of the season.

It was all Stevens in the second as well as Thomasian scored her first of the day less than 10 minutes in off a feed from Alvarez, before the pair hooked up again in minute 65 to push the lead to four. In each instance, Alvarez delivered a perfect feed for Thomasian to beat the goalie one-on-one.

The goals were more than enough for the Stevens defense as the Ducks held Houghton shot-less over the final eight minutes to seal the win. 

The Ducks will be right back in action tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against The College at Brockport in Hoboken.
