HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 11, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team routed The College at Brockport 8-1 Sunday to pick up its third-straight win.
The win moved Stevens to 3-1, while Brockport fell to 1-3.
Junior
Cassidy O'Hearn sparked the Ducks offensively with four points off a goal and two assists, while senior
Nolie Prouty added two goals of her own. Junior
Katti Thomasian chipped in with a pair of assists, in addition to a goal from senior
Taylor Welch.
The Ducks dominated possession throughout the contest with 34 shots including 22 on goal, while registering 29 corners to Brockport's four.
Senior goalie
Emily Stukenborg made four saves in the cage to lower her goals against average to 2.15 for the season.
Brockport started strong with a pair of shots in the opening two minutes, but Stukenborg made the stop on both to keep the shutout intact. Stevens answered the pressure with shots of its own, before breaking through seven minutes in with a score from junior
Victoria Alvarez.
Thomasian brought the ball into the scoring zone, sending a pass over to Alvarez who connected on the one-timer goal.
Welch extended the lead 10 minutes later with a score off a rebound from Thomasian's shot, followed four minutes later by Prouty's first goal of the season on an uncontested rocket into the top right corner of the cage.
Sophomore
Hannah Silvestri got into the scoring early in the second with a one-timer goal off a feed from O'Hearn, followed by a penalty shot goal from O'Hearn to make it 5-1. Prouty picked up her second score of the day soon after with a pop-fly blooper, before freshman
Michaela Thompson connected with her first career goal in the 62nd minute on a deflection from O'Hearn.
Freshman
Ireland Tawney capped the Stevens scoring in minute 64 with a goal off her own rebound, giving another Stevens rookie their first career score.
The lead was plenty for Stevens defensively as a defensive save from junior
Drew Lustig in the closing minutes kept Brockport from inching any closer.
The Ducks will face their second stiff road test of the season Wednesday when they travel to No. 10 Montclair St. University for a 7 p.m. game.
