Men’s Soccer Drops Road Match To Montclair

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 10, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 14 Montclair St. University Saturday night in non-conference action.

The loss dropped Stevens to 1-2-0, while Montclair St. moved to 5-1-0.

Sophomore Daniel Aversano served as a catalyst on the Stevens offense with three shots on goal, while senior Nick DeFelice tallied one of his own. Sophomore keeper Aaron Henry made three saves in net to bring his season total to 10.

As a team, Stevens recorded 10 shots including five on goal, and earned three corners.

Henry converted a pair of saves in the first 13 minutes to keep Montclair off the board, but the Redhawks finally broke through in the 20th to grab an early lead.

Junior Tommy Dorsay and Aversano fired back with equalizing attempts soon after, but Dorsay's sailed high while Aversano's fell into the hands of Montclair keeper Mike Saalfrank to keep Stevens off the board. The Ducks continued the pressure with shots on goal from Dorsay and Aversano in the closing minutes, however both were saved by Saalfrank to send the Ducks into the half down one.

Both teams traded shots early in the second before Dorsay's attempt in the 51st minute was saved. Dorsay added another in the 62nd that sailed high, followed by one more from Aversano in the closing minutes that was once again stopped.

The attempt would be all Stevens would have the rest of the way as Montclair played defense the final seven minutes to prevent Stevens from having another opportunity.

The Ducks will return to Hoboken Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with No. 6 Haverford College.
