Men’s Soccer Draws With Haverford

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 14, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer Wednesday night in 0-0 tie with Haverford College in Hoboken.

The tie moved Stevens' record to 1-2-1, while Haverford moved to 2-1-2.

Stevens was led offensively by senior Jay Mikula and junior Tommy Dorsay who had three and five shots respectively, two of which went on goal for each. Sophomore goalie Aaron Henry made three saves in net to earn his first shutout of the season.

As a team the Ducks outshot Haverford 13-5, including a 5-3 margin in shots on goal.

Stevens opened regulation with a pair of shots recorded by senior Nick DeFelice and Dorsay that failed to reach Haverford keeper Sam Miller. Both teams took a deliberate approach from there with the next shot not coming until the 30-minute mark from Dorsay that was saved.

Haverford finally managed some pressure of its own with a pair of shots out of a scrum in front of the Stevens goal in minute 37, but Henry made the save on both the keep the match deadlocked heading into the break.

Stevens had an opportunity early in the second with a midfield bomb from Mikula into an open net that sailed wide, before another open net opportunity off the foot of sophomore Daniel Aversano in the 59th that was blocked by the Fords defense.

Mikula had two more attempts in the closing minutes including one off a set piece in the 84th, but Miller made the save on each to send the match into extra time.

Stevens had a pair of shots in the first overtime period before having a strong opportunity early in the second, but each chance was defused by Haverford to solidify the draw.

The Ducks will be back in action Sunday when they open Empire 8 play at Ithaca College.
